After a brief introduction, the documentary proceeds chronologically, combining Justice Thomas’ first person account with a rich array of historical archive material, period and original music, personal photos, and evocative recreations. Unscripted and without narration, the documentary takes the viewer through this complex and often painful life, dealing with race, faith, power, jurisprudence, and personal resilience. In 1948, Clarence Thomas was born into dire poverty in Pin Point, Georgia, a Gullah- speaking peninsula in the segregated South. His father abandoned the family when Clarence was two years old. His mother, unable to care for two boys, brought Clarence and his brother, Myers, to live with her father and his wife. Thomas’ grandfather, Myers Anderson, whose schooling ended at the third grade, delivered coal and heating oil in Savannah. He gave the boys tough love and training in hard work. He sent them to a segregated Catholic school where the Irish nuns taught them self-discipline and a love of learning. From there, Thomas entered the seminary, training to be a priest. As the times changed, Thomas began to rebel against the values of his grandfather. Angered by his fellow seminarians’ racist comments following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and disillusioned by the Catholic Church’s general failure to support the civil rights movement, Thomas left the seminary. His grandfather felt Thomas had betrayed him by questioning his values and kicked Thomas out of his house. In 1968, Thomas enrolled as a scholarship student at the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts. While there, he helped found the Black Student Union and supported the burgeoning Black Power Movement. Then, Thomas’s views began to change, as he saw it, back to his grandfather’s values. He judged the efforts of the left and liberals to help his people to be demeaning failures. To him, affirmative action seemed condescending and ineffective, sending African-American students to schools where they were not prepared to succeed. He watched the busing crisis in Boston tear the city apart. To Thomas, it made no sense. Why, he asked, pluck poor black kids out of their own bad schools only to bus them to another part of town to sit with poor white students in their bad schools? At Yale Law School, he felt stigmatized by affirmative action, treated as if he were there only because of his race, minimizing his previous achievements. After graduating in 1974, he worked for then State Attorney General John Danforth in Missouri, eventually working in the Reagan administration, first running the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Education and then the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. In 1990, he became a judge on the U. S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. In 1991, President George H. W. Bush nominated Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. His confirmation hearings would test his character and principles in the crucible of national controversy. Like the Bork hearings in 1987, the Democrats went after Thomas’ record and his jurisprudence, especially natural law theory, but also attacked his character. When that failed, and he was on the verge of being confirmed, a former employee, Anita Hill, came forth to accuse him of sexual harassment. The next few days of televised hearings riveted the nation. Finally, defending himself against relentless attacks by the Democratic Senators on the committee, Thomas accused them of running “a high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas. ” After wall-to-wall television coverage, according to the national polls, the American people believed Thomas by more than a 2-1 margin. Yet, Thomas was confirmed by the closest margin in history, 52-48. In his 27 years on the court, Thomas’s jurisprudence has often been controversial—from his brand of originalism to his decisions on affirmative action and other hot button topics. Critical journalists often point out that he rarely speaks in oral argument. The public remains curious about Clarence Thomas—both about his personal history and his judicial opinions. His 2007 memoir, My Grandfather’s Son, was number one on The New York Times’ bestseller list. In addition to the two-hour feature length documentary film, a companion website providing more details and curriculum materials will be created and available. He details how a brief exchange with then news reporter Juan Williams was stretched to a full article, one that opened Thomas up to all manner of social criticisms. This seems to have at least girded him for the confirmation hellstorm he would face. The surprising aspect is that Thomas was truly ambivalent about his Court appointment. The fact that he was not especially driven to become a Justice possibly helped his cause; that the nomination was not an all-consuming goal of his meant he could face the harsh accusations with a sober eye and confront the charges with the rock-ribbed character his grandfather instilled in him. The footage we are shown revisiting that confirmation process is especially revealing in the wake of the Brett Kavanaugh fiasco we just endured. The actions that the Democrats used on Kavanaugh were almost exactly the same as those hurled at Clarence Thomas decades back. There was the focus on ideology over legal precedent, accusatory questions about prospective rulings that are impossible to answer, attacks of a personal nature that were divorced from his professional record, and then the 11th-hour arrival of a female leveling charges of sexual attacks, just on the eve of his confirmation vote. It is so remarkably similar as to appear that a playbook actually exists with the steps drawn out to discredit a man. Thomas’ reflections on this time are clear-eyed. He expresses bemusement with the early round of questioning, particularly those from then-Senator Joe Biden. We get footage of Biden trying desperately to sound like the legal expert, focusing primarily off the concepts of Natural Law, almost trying to make that sound like a fringe belief system when it was, in fact, something Thomas Jefferson used as the basis of Constitutional writings. Thomas says of Biden’s attempt to sound authoritative on the matter, ” I had no idea what he was talking about. ’’ The most striking part of ‘Created Equal’ is hearing Thomas give his impressions of what he went through with the Anita Hill accusations. Not having heard her testimony, once he was told what she had accused him of saying he almost seemed relieved. That is how confident he was in her testimony being false, and his addressing it. The decision was made that after her time before the committee it would be wisest to have Thomas follow with his time for rebuttal, so her vile charges were not the last thing people heard. As Thomas certainly prepared his comments what was noticeable was his earnestness in fighting back at the charges. He addressed the Senate panel with a firm resolve, not reading a prepared statement but delivering an honest rebuke to the charges and looking at the Senators who had been launching the crudest of personal attacks directly in the eye. It is as impressive a display to watch today as it was back then. The reason this documentary is so compelling is twofold. We get the personal exposure of a man who is by design a cipher, who wants to be known for his professional accomplishments and nothing more. But we also get exposed to many aspects of his career that the press has deliberately elected to not reveal. It becomes a needed record of a deeply impressive figure. If you have seen the trailer this film does what it says on the tin. It is a decent cop/bad guy film that is a little different in its storyline.
The film rattles along a decent pace and has some good scenes. There is some quite good suspense and action along the way as well.
Where the film is let down is the ending is just so clear, aside from a tiny twist, from about half way through the film and even then, when it happens it's quite a damp squib. There are also parts of the story that just don't stack up, which is a shame as it has good potential.

This movie was trying to prostrate as it was positively event when the real story was nothing what that movie was made out to be. There is a lot of stories in this movie that needs to addressing to. I'll leave a few examples in here:
First of off, this lady was never had a romance with this Civil Rights activist.
Secondly, the FBI was not harassing her all because of hers political, nor because of hers involvement with Civil Rights, except it was because of her being involvement with a racist black group that was attempting to rob a several business and motivate to kill the enforcement.
Lastly, this lady was arrested for treason, publicity destruction, hatred, and harassing the soldiers whose return from Vietnam.
This movie needs to re-fix with fact-checking, instead of doing it to supports the propaganda.
I'll give it a 10 star once they fix it, but I know they won't.

Seberg (Benedict Andrews) is an affair drama which is an interpretation of a real story. Combining the lead character's professional and personal roles, it explores her personal and relational lives.
Kristen Stewart gives a slightly contrite performance and she seems to have been once again typecast. Thankfully, the supporting cast are there with good performances to make up for the lack of personal connection with the main character. Unfortunately the excellent costume design is not enough to carry the film and will likely be overlooked.
Speaking after a screening at TIFF, the director explained the film is really a story of voyeurism; the addiction and danger of the watcher and watched. Even so, the excitement of surveillance is lost on an emotional contrived performance.
